The Work

The Area Owner is a problem solver at its heart. Taking client requests, figuring out what needs to change in the code, implementing that change and building tests to ensure reliability. You’ll use Python or PHP, interact with datastores, web servers, and maybe even write some frontend code. Build APIs, consume APIs. You will own a portion of a project and review others’ work in your domain. Helping team members learn and use best practices for your project and software in general will help the team excel. There will be weekly client interaction.

Responsibilities

• While writing PHP and/or Python code for clients:
• Able to acquire understanding and absorb information rapidly. Understand core and advanced concepts of programming and know how to apply them.
• Analyzes tasks and creates a plan for solving problems. Can look at a bug report and determine the root cause of the issue in the code.
• Recognizes when a decision is something they can make and when to escalate it.
• Can analyze customer requirements, project state and team capacity to create solutions
• Follows programming best practices and project conventions.
• Advocates solutions that will please the customer. Understands the customer’s requirements and communicates them clearly.
• Reaches out to peers when stuck. Wins and loses together as a team

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience in software development
• Additional four years full time Python or PHP development
• Test Driven Development experience
• Have gone through the SDLC several times with projects launched on time
• Strong oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Work experience with remote teams
• Strong database skills
• Basic understanding of system architecture and when to use different patterns
